At the end of 2011, a version with a removable roof was announced - Hennessey Venom GT Spyder. The car is more expensive than the coupe version by $150 000 and costs $1.1 million. The version with a removable roof appeared thanks to the request of Steven Tyler (lead vocalist of Aerosmith), he also became the first owner of the Venom GT Spyder in May 2012. The design changes increased the weight of the vehicle, so it was decided to also increase the engine output to 1244 hp to match the weight-to-power ratio of one. The engine displacement was also increased to 7 liters.
