The type R1091 Gordini version of the Dauphine was offered from 1957 and featured lowered suspension and wider wheels. Amedee Gordini developed a new cylinder head for the 845cc Renault engine and took the power up to 36bhp (from 27bhp), and later to 55bhp. The Dauphine Gordini was also given a 4-speed gearbox. In 1967 a 1255cc Gordini was launched with a 5-speed gearbox.
